The film Hallo tells the touching story of a theatregoer on two levels. The search for one’s own identity and confrontation with oneself is staged and filmed in humorous, strange and profound ways. Martin Zimmermann, the choreographer and performer, penetrates his innermost self and his universe and uses this concentrate of his art to transcend the boundaries between dance, theatre and circus.
Humour, magic and absurdity are what make Zimmermann’s art so unique. He creates strange, outlandish worlds as settings in which he presents the characters and bizarre objects of his plays. He will often take everyday things from reality and place them in parallel worlds where they appear oddly out of place and absurd. Together with film director Chris Niemeyer, he creates a second level to document the stage play Hallo, thus giving rise to a new artistic dimension.
